Packing and Planning for NYC

EEEEEK! Less than a week until Ken and I fly to NYC for an impromptu 48 hour work trip. Well, technically Ken’s working and I’m vacationing! And while I wish we were going to be there for a bit longer, I absolutely can’t wait.

I moved out of NYC in 2009 and while I have zero desire to move back (which is a great thing as my So Cal boyfriend would never in a million years consider living in the Big Apple) I still get fat-kid-in-a-candy-store excited to go home. When I think about returning home to NYC, two major things come to mind:

  • What to pack
  • Where to eat

With the fall-ish weather slightly cooling down, I took inventory of my closet and decided on exploring in my favorite flats (not pictured), skinny jeans (I’m wearing a size 24), a plaid button down (I’m wearing an XS) and puffy vest (I’m wearing an XS).

Don’t mind my sleepy face and sad selfie!
Now that I have my outfit down (and realize I need to improve my photography skills AND start wearing makeup/doing my hair), where to eat is up next. With limited time in the Big Apple, I must choose wisely!

Here are my initial thoughts:

Keste. I’m so excited our hotel is near this gem. Voted #1 Pizza in New York by New York magazine, Best Pizza in the state of NY by Food Network Magazine, and amongst the top 25 Best Pizza Places the US by Food and Wine magazine this place looks UH-MAZ-ING. I mean, who goes to NYC and doesn’t eat pizza?!

Levain Bakery. Has anyone actually tried the famous cookies at Levain?! I have not – and I must say, I’m beyond excited!! I’m such a sucker for a warm and chewy homemade cookie. These look BOMB.

Jacques Torres Chocolate. Ken’s mom is the absolute best about always watching our pup while we vacation (which is quite often!). So as a thank you, I always try and bring her back something from our travels. She happens to love chocolate, so a box of truffles from Jacques is a no brainer!

And because I can’t just eat all the carbs and drink all the drinks guilt-free, I’ll be hitting the local Barry’s Bootcamp a time or two during our stay.

Now I ask you – my lovely readers! It’s been almost 10 years since I’ve called NYC home – so please, HELP! Any must-see places? Must-eat spots? Fave wine bars? Great places to get a workout in? I’d love to hear from you!
